YOUR HOME STAY FRENCH IMMERSION IN VERSAILLES

For 16 years we have lived in Bures, a charming little village located in a green and peaceful countryside. Our three sons grew up here, and as a result we have a lot of friends among our neighbours. We really like to share the social life of our village, especially by taking part in local events throughout the year.

Our home, quite spacious and modern one, is surrounded by a charming ornamental garden filled in summer with floral scents of roses, jasmine, honeysuckle, lavender and Mexican orange trees. In this garden there is also a tiny vegetable patch where Gilles, my husband, grows all kinds of aromatic plants, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, etc.

The house is composed of a ground floor and a second floor. On the ground floor are the main living rooms and the accommodation of our guests, all rooms overlooking a large terrace, which is a very pleasant place in summer. Upstairs are our own rooms and bathroom.

Your room is very cosy and comfortable. It is furnished with a full-size bed (two persons) and two side tables, a little “bureau”, shelves with books and an armoire. The bathroom with a spacious Italian shower and toilets is adjacent to the bedroom.

Your accommodation is quite bright with a French window opening on to the terrace and the garden. A great place to rest and study in peace!

My name is Sophie I am a native French woman born in Paris. For several years I have been teaching French in a language school in Paris to teenagers of all nationalities and all levels. I also worked as a French teacher in a shelter and social reintegration centre for a plurilingual adult public, asylum seeker. Furthermore, I am a TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) corrector at the CIEP, a public institution of the French Education Ministry.
I am married to Gilles, a computer engineer. We have three sons: the youngest, aged 15, lives with us but the two eldest, studying in Paris, only come home from time to time.
Welcoming foreign students at home is for me a real opportunity to teach French differently, using a method that favors authentic interactions, continuous speaking practice and learning in dynamic and motivating contexts.

LEARNING FRENCH

Thanks to a rich and varied experience in teaching French, in a multilingual and multicultural environment, with adults or adolescents of all levels, I offer interactive, lively courses, adapted to your level and your objectives.

The French class preferably takes place in the morning. I like to favor oral work, from audio or video documents. But I also attach importance to grammar and vocabulary, essential to be able to express yourself correctly and to be understood.

My lessons are in French but I can also communicate in English, Spanish or German if necessary.

ACTIVITIES

Living in Bures, very close to Paris, is a unique opportunity to discover not only the top sights in Paris (only 30 minutes by train) but also other important sightseeing sites in the surroundings of Paris, such as Versailles palace and gardens (30 minutes by car), the “musée des impressionnismes” and Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny, the Domaine National in Saint-Germain-en-Laye with its royal castle and its largest archeological collection in Europe, the museum of Claude Debussy in Saint Germain-en-Laye, the Villa Savoye in Poissy, designed by the famous architect Le Corbusier or the Dreyfus museum and the house of Emile Zola in Médan, etc. As you can see, whether you are interested in history, architecture, painting, literature, you will have a wide range of cultural tours.

Cultural activities in Paris and Ile-de-France – Other activities : walks along the Seine, visits to villages of character, churches, small literary museums (Emile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, Tourgueniev), discovery of local markets, cooking workshops, etc.. An additional cost related to museum / exhibition tickets and transport may be requested.

Sightseeing Paris and other highlight sites outside Paris while enjoying the charm of the countryside away from the hustle and bustle is a real privilege. Sure, you will appreciate it! In this natural environment made of cereals fields, orchards, or centuries-old forests all around Bures, you can have many possibilities for hiking, cycling (we have got bikes for you if you want!) or running. My husband and I love to run in these beautiful landscapes while two of our sons prefer cycling.
